MODEL RELEASED. CT scanning. Radiologist prepares a woman patient for a CT (Computed Tomography or CAT) brain scan. The patient lies on a mobile table, positioned head first at the circular scanner through which she will pass. Her head is secured with a white band to prevent movement during scanning. The radiologist will then leave the room to operate the scanner remotely. CT scanning combines the use of a computer and fine X-ray beams to produce cross-sectional "slices" through the body. CT scans produce good contrast between soft tissues and bone, and are useful in diagnosing cancerous tumours and other disease | |
