MODEL RELEASED. Ultrasound in pregnancy. Woman in late pregnancy in an ultrasound suite during the monitoring of her unborn baby. The sonographer (at left) holds a foetal scan image; a two-dimensional image of the developing foetus can be seen on the screen. To produce this image a hand-held transducer was moved over the woman's lubricated abdomen to detect the foetus in the womb. Ultra- sound scanning is a diagnostic technique that uses high-frequency sound waves. In pregnancy it is performed to detect foetal disorders, and it helps establish foetal size and healthy development and hence the expected delivery date | |
