Turner's syndrome karyotype
Turner syndrome. Light micrograph of a karyotype (set of chromosomes) from a woman with Turner syndrome. This condition is characterised by the presence of only one,or only one complete,sex chromosome. The normal sex karyotype for a female is XX,those with Turner syndrome have only a single functioning X chromosome (bottom right). Symptoms include short stature,infertility,web neck and a broad chest with widely spaced nipples. Growth hormones can be given to increase stature and oestrogen can be given to develop secondary sexual characteristics. The majority of those with Turner syndrome are also able to become pregnant with IVF treatment
