Club foot corrected. Deformed foot of a 1 month old baby boy in a splint to correct the congenital abnormality, talipes equinovarus. In this common form of club foot, the heel is turned inwards and the rest of the foot is bent downwards and inwards. The child cannot stand with the sole of the foot flat on the ground, but walks on the outer edge. Talipes equinovarus is twice as common in boys as in girls. Treatment by repeated manipulation of the foot and ankle should take place soon after birth. In this case,a splint is required to hold the foot in the correct position. If this is ineffective, surgery to cut the tight ligaments & tendons in the foot will be needed | |
