MODEL RELEASED. Skin graft removal site on the back of a 27 year old man. This man had a flap of skin removed from his back and grafted onto his head to replace scalp skin lost in a road traffic accident. This is six weeks after the operation to graft the new skin on. Skin grafts are used when a wound is too large to heal naturally,or will cause severe scarring if left. The skin for grafts is generally taken from the same patient to prevent rejection of the tissue by the immune system. See image M336/056 for the graft in place on the patient's scalp | |
