Burn scar. Scar seen on the skin of a child caused by scalding. A scald is a burn caused by hot liquid or steam. As with all burns, the damage is caused by heating the skin over 49 degrees centigrade. Only very serious burns, known as third degree burns, cause such scarring. The whole thickness of the skin is affected and extensive scarring may result in the need for skin grafts | |
