Second degree burn of male forearm. Close up of left male forearm with a salmon pink, diamond shaped burn in the centre of the photograph. Small blisters have formed, with hair loss,in the portion of affected skin nearest the elbow. This is a classical second degree burn. Some of the dermis (the deep layer of the skin) is left to recover and these burns will heal without scarring, unless they are extensive. Treatment involves estimation of the total affected body area. If this is greater than ten percent the patient is considered to be in shock and is given fluid and antibiotic drugs | |
