MODEL RELEASED. Disc surgery scar. Scar on the back of a 42-year- old woman, two weeks after surgery (foramenectomy) on a slipped disc between vertebrae C6 and C7 in the neck. A slipped disc arises when the soft cartilage that separates and cushions the vertebrae of the spine ruptures as a result of strain or injury. This can lead to pain and the compression of nerves or the spinal cord. If the injury does not heal naturally, surgery may be required to remove the ruptured disc and the affected vertebrae fused to keep them from rubbing together | |
