Post-operative scar. A scar seen on the leg of a sixty year-old male patient three months after a total knee joint replacement operation. Knee joint replacement operations are carried out mostly in older people whose knees are severely affected by pain and impaired motion due to arthritis. A diseased knee joint is replaced with an artificial substitute,usually a plastic or metal implant. Post-operative scarring is minimised by closing the surgical wound using stitches (or suturing)
