MODEL RELEASED. Sub-conjunctival bleeding due to a fractured cheek bone (zygoma) of a 76 year old woman following a fall. The treatment of such an injury is complicated by the nearby presence of the eye, facial nerves, and the maxillary sinuses. Also, the jaw muscles exert large forces on this bone. The cheek bone is a vital part of the structure of the face, supporting the bones of the orbit of the eye. If the bone fragments are recessed, they need to be surgically repositioned. Immobilisation with plates or screws is also used | |
