Fractured humerus. Coloured X-ray of 2 metal screws immobilising a fractured humerus (upper arm bone) at the shoulder. The clavicle (upper centre) and rib cage (centre) can be seen. Pins screws and metal plates are used to internally immobilise a compound or comminuted (shattered) fracture. Fractures occur when there is an injury that exerts more force on the bone than it can withstand. Treatment includes taking an X-ray and immobilising the joint so that the bone ends are correctly aligned and the bone can heal properly | |
