Fractured tibia. Coloured X-ray of metal pins holding a fractured tibia (lower leg bone) in place while it heals. Metal pins are used when there is a compound or comminuted (shattered) fracture. Most fractures are caused by an injury that exerts more force on the bone than it can withstand. Treatment includes X-raying and immobilising the break. Fractures of the tibia take up to 6 months to heal as the tibia is a weight bearing bone | |
