Foam plug in wound. Close-up of an infected wound plugged with an anti-bacterial foam dressing. The wound,on the patient's trunk under the right arm,is a surgical incision that split open and became infected. The surrounding tissue is inflamed and red. After plugging with foam, the wound was ban- daged to allow healing. This patient had received a sympathectomy,an operation where a nerve is cut via an incision in the armpit in order to improve poor blood-flow in the arm. 5-10% of surgical wounds become infected in spite of routine aseptic precautions during surgery. Treatment includes antibiotic drugs. See M330/446 for the same wound before application of foam dressing | |
