Dislocated finger. Coloured X-ray showing the dislocation between two phalanges in a finger. Dislocation is usually accompanied by tearing of the joint ligaments; it is the tearing that makes this injury so painful. The injury that causes dislocation often also causes the fracture of one or both of the bones involved. The treatment consists of manipulating the bones back in their correct position which may require a surgical operation. The joint is then immobilised by means of a splint or plaster cast in order to allow the healing to occur without disturbance | |
