Neck fracture. X-ray of the vertebrae of the neck (side view) of a patient following surgery, showing metal screws fixing the fractures of four cervical vertebrae. This injury which was sustained in a skiing accident, caused the angle of the neck to be displaced backwards, with cervical vertebrae (C3 to C6) damaged. Multiple fractures created angular spaces between the spine bones, upsetting the normal alignment of the vertebrae. Metal plates and screws were inserted to straighten and support the neck. (see: M330/291 for a X-ray showing the injured neck prior to being operated upon) | |
