Allergy testing. View of a skin prick test on the inner arm. Small amounts of various allergens have been injected into marked areas on the skin. Any inflammation indicates an immune response,indicating that the patient may be allergic to that particular substance. Skin prick tests are used to help identify allergens responsible for asthma or hayfever (as well as other allergic type illnesses) despite the fact that skin symptoms are not a primary feature of these conditions. Skin prick tests are also used to test immunity to certain infectious diseases (such as the tuberculin test)
