Clinical photograph of a neuropathic ulcer on the foot of a diabetic patient. Neuropathy is a disease of the peripheral nerves that appears in diabetes. The potential for such ulcers healing depends on the patency of the surrounding blood vessels. Thermography may be used to investigate this: ulcers (which appear cold in a thermogram) surrounded by tissue with a good blood supply (a hot area on a thermogram) are more likely to heal than those surrounded by tissue to which the blood supply is poor & which appear cold. Compare with M280/052,a thermogram of the same foot | |
