MODEL RELEASED. Scleroderma. Deformed foot of a 62 year old man with scleroderma, also known as systemic sclerosis. This is a rare autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system attacks its own cells resulting in the persistent hardening of the connective tissue. Here, hardening and tightening of the skin has caused the toes to become curled in on themselves. Scleroderma can affect any part of the body and be localised or systemic. Its cause is not known. There is no cure, but ointments and anti- inflammatory drugs can ease the symptoms | |
