Pneumoconiosis lung disease. Chest X-ray of the lungs of a patient suffering from pneumoconiosis. The dark lung fields show a mottled appearance with patches of white fibrous masses due to harmful particles in the air which have penetrated deep into the lung tissue. These tiny particles eventually cause breathlessness as the healthy tissue degenerates into fibrous masses. Most cases of pneumoconiosis are due to industrial exposure to coal dust, silica and asbestos. Treatment is palliative (reducing the impact of the symptoms) as there is no cure | |
