| Pneumothorax treatment. Coloured chest X-ray showing a lung affected by pneumothorax (air between the lung and the chest wall) being treated by a chest drain. The lung has collapsed to about half its healthy size,and is visible as the blue streaky mass at upper left. The dark areas below and to the right of this are the chest filled with air,which causes shortness of breath and pain on breathing. A thin tube can be seen attached to the patient's chest with a safety pin (far right). The tube leads to the top of the chest cavity,and will drain the air over a period of days,allowing the lung to re-inflate | |
