Molluscum contagiosum. View of a line of lesions on the skin of a 10 year old boy. These lesions, caused by a molluscum contagiosum poxvirus infection, are following the line of an older scratch. Molluscum contagiosum is usually harmless, and most commonly occurs in children. The shiny papules produce a cheesy fluid and a crust forms before healing occurs. The papules can appear in groups on the genitals, thighs, face or elsewhere. It usually clears up in a few months but may require medical treatment in extreme cases. The disease is highly contagious through skin contact with the affected area | |
