Impetigo infection on a child's chin. Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection caused by Staphylococcus bacteria. The infection starts as a red patch and develops into small pustules that merge to form a yellow, crusty sore. Patients must not share items like towels that have touched the affected area,as this will spread the disease. Treatment is with antibiotic drugs. Photographed in Africa | |
