Arteritis. Coloured angiogram of the left leg of a 53 year old patient who has previously undergone a below-knee amputation in order to treat arteritis. Arteritis is a disease where the walls of arteries become inflamed,usually as a result of infection or auto-immune response. Seen here are severe stenoses (restrictions) of the femoral artery (thin,dark line),a large artery in the thigh. Limited blood flow in the leg can result in necrosis (tissue death) or gangrene. Angiograms use a contrast dye to highlight blood vessels
