Narrowed leg artery. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) scan of the legs of a male with stenosis (narrowed vessels) in both femoral arteries,which run from the groin to each knee. The stenoses are seen in the patient's right groin (upper left) and left thigh (lower right). The kidneys (orange) are also seen. Stenosis is usually caused by atheroma (fatty deposits on the inner wall). Treatment for stenosis is usually an angioplasty,a surgical procedure where a stent (wire mesh tube) is inserted into the narrowed region and expanded,which reopens the artery to ensure normal blood flow. MRA is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that highlights blood vessels without needing to inject the radio- opaque dye that is used for X-ray angiography
