Hyperplasia of ileal lymphatic tissue, pill camera view. The large bumps are enlarged Peyer's patches. These are masses of lymphatic tissue found in the ileum, the last part of the small intestine. They are responsible for protecting the digestive tract from pathogenic micro-organisms. In some circumstances, such as an unusual amount of potential pathogens, they can show hyperplasia,an increase in size due to a proliferation of the cells that form them. This can cause problems if they block or partially block the ileum. Treatment is aimed at the underlying cause. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera that is swallowed to image the digestive tract | |
