MODEL RELEASED. Removal of a foreign body in eye. Image 2 of 2. Fluorescein (yellow) in the eye of a 72- year-old man,used to aid the removal of a foreign body from the cornea. This chemical dye can only enter damgaged cells of the eye,temporarily staining them. The stain differs according to the part of the eye affected. Damage to the conjunctiva appears yellow/orange,while damage to the cornea is green. Foreign bodies are surrounded by a green ring. A foreign body can be removed under local anaesthesia. The eye is then usually covered with a patch and antibiotic drugs in the form of eye drops may be prescribed. See M155/507 for the eye containing a foreign body
