MODEL RELEASED. Corneal abrasion on a 45-year-old woman's eye. The abrasion has been made visible using a fluorescent dye (green). This is a superficial injury to the surface of the cornea, the transparent front layer of the eye. It is a painful injury and can cause a weepy eye, discomfort in bright lights (known as photophobia),and spasms in the eyelid. Treatment includes antibiotic drugs to avoid infection, eye padding to allow healing, and pain-killing drugs. Infection can lead to ulceration of the cornea and corneal scarring. This woman was injured while she worked in the forestry industry. The dye used is yellow (seen at the corner of the eye) and it is fluorescing green at the site of the injury | |
