MODEL RELEASED. Viral conjunctivitis. Bloodshot eye of a 55-year- old man with viral conjunctivitis. The white of the eye (sclera) is packed with tiny red blood vessels. Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the eye. It causes redness, irritation, itching and, occasionally, abnormal sensitivity to light. Viral conjunctivitis can spread rapidly as an epidemic. It can also be triggered by a cold, sore throat or another viral illness. There is no specific cure for viral conjunctivitis and it usually clears up without treatment | |
