Keratitis. Close-up of the eye of a 64-year-old woman suffering from keratitis. This is an inflammation of the cornea which has taken the form of a corneal ulcer (green, centre). The presence of the ulcer has been detected through the application of a fluorescent dye (yellow) which is absorbed by any lesions on the surface of the eye and becomes green in colour. The symptoms of keratitis include eye pain, excessive watering and blurred vision. This patient is also suffering from blepharitis,a condition that usually affects the eyelids but in this case has moved to the eye itself, causing the redness seen | |
