The affected eye (at right) is noticeably enlarged,cloudy and lacking a distinct pupil. Buphthalmos is a type of congenital glaucoma,where fluid build up within the eye damages internal structures. Here,it has caused retrolental fibroplasia: damaging blood vessels in the developing retina leading to abnormal growth of fibrous scar tissue inside the eye.
