Drusen. Ophthalmoscope view of the retina of a patient's eye, showing drusen. The retina appears orange in colour. There is a matrix of white hyaline growths which have formed on Descemet's membrane beneath the retina. This may cause the retina to peel away and detach itself, with associated loss of vision. Drusen may also occur on the head of the optic nerve,in which case it is called "optic disc" drusen. The optic disc is not seen in this image. Drusen is a hereditary condition | |
