Post cataract surgery. Close-up of stitches in the eye after surgery for a congenital (present at birth) cataract. The sutures appear as dark hair- like lines on the top of the iris. A cataract is a general term describing the opacity & loss of sight associated with the denaturation of the proteins in the eye's lens. Cataract is often associated with aging,but can occur due to disea- se (for instance diabetes,Wilson's disease,severe eczema),trauma,or prolonged exposure to infrared rays. Treatment is often the surgical removal or replacement of the eye's lens. The eye takes 1 month to heal
