Eczema. View of a patchy red eczema rash seen on the back of a 61 year-old man's trunk. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin, usually itchy, which may be accompanied by scaling or blisters. It may occur without any obvious external cause,or may be caused by an allergy. Mild cases may be treated by applying emollients such as petroleum jelly. These keep the skin in the affected area soft, reducing irritation and scratching. More severe cases will require corticosteroid drugs and antibiotics against bacterial infections | |
