Eczema from cat allergy. This child's left hand is covered with small itchy blisters over the back,wrist and the web between the thumb and first finger. The skin is shiny and furrowed from scratching (lichenification). Some of the blisters have burst to form small ulcers on the inside of the wrist,first and fifth knuckle. The eczema (or dermatitis) has been caused by a cat allergy,identified by patch testing of the skin to specific allergens. Treatment is to avoid contact with the irritant and to relieve symptoms. Soothing ointments,protective dressings,antihistamine preparations,antibiotics and corticosteroids may be prescribed | |
