Cancer of lung. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan showing the right lung affected by cancer. In this posterior view the light blue areas show the cancerous formations in the affected lung whereas the healthy lung is coloured green. This is one of the most common forms of cancer. It may spread locally to tissues surrounding the lungs or to other parts of the body such as the liver. If the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage pneumonectomy (removal of the lung) may be performed. Anticancer drugs or radiotherapy may be used to contain the spread of the tumour. The pink-red area at bottom is the diaphragm, the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen | |
