Myeloma cell. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a malignant (cancerous) white blood cell. This cell has the typical morphology of a cancer cell. The nucleus (red) is greatly enlarged and multilobed and the cytoplasm (brown) contains many highly active mitochondria (blue). The nucleus contains chromatin (blue),a complex of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and proteins. Myeloma is a rare form of cancer in which plasma cells, which produce antibodies against microorganisms and foreign particles, proliferate uncontrollably.
