Drug-resistant cancer cells. Immunofluorescent light micrograph of cultured drug resistant human lung cancer cells. The nucleus of each cell is stained blue. Spiralling protein chains stained red and green are seen within the cytoplasm of each cell. These are known as vault proteins. Vault proteins are flower-like organelles whose function is not known. These cancer cells are resistant to many drugs and anti-cancer agents. The abnormal shape & size of them indicates cancer. Immunofluorescence is a staining technique in which antibodies are used to attach fluorescent dyes to specific molecules within cells. Magnification: x350 at 6x4.5cm size | |
