Skin cancer. Immunofluorescent Light Micrograph of squamous carcinoma cells, cultured from a tumour. This highly malignant cancer arises in epithelium: typically of the skin. At centre is a cell in the metaphase stage of mitosis (cell division). DNA is stained blue; nuclei stain pinkish blue and tubulin,a structural protein,is green. Squamous cell carcinoma may be caused by high exposure to the sunlight. It is common in pale-skinned people over age 60. Immunofluorescence is a technique which uses antibodies to attach fluorescent dyes to specific tissues and molecules within the cell. Magnification: x320 at 6x4.5cm size. x187 at 35mm size | |
