MODEL RELEASED. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) skin cancer on the scalp of a 75 year old man. BCC is the most common type of skin cancer, and is thought to be related to overexposure to sunlight. There is also a strong genetic factor,as the disease tends to run in families. It is not a particularly aggressive cancer, and rarely metastasises (spreads) to other sites in the body. It does continue to grow though, and its growth can affect surrounding tissues. Treatment with surgical removal effects a cure in the majority of cases, although chemotherapy is effective as well | |
