Liver cancer. Gross clinical specimen of a primary malignant (cancerous) tumour (neoplasm, grey, centre left) of the liver. The most common form of liver cancer,a hepatoma,is associated with viral hepatitis infections. It results in weight loss, pain and jaundice. If diagnosed early, and not complicated by cirrhosis, surgery to remove the tumour is possible. In other cases, anticancer drugs may allow the patient to survive longer, but ultimately only a transplant will cure. The specimen is not displaying cirrhosis, the degeneration of cells and thickening of tissue | |
