MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma on the nose of a 57-year-old man. Squamous cells are flat,scale-like cells in the skin. Cancer of these cells is one of the most common forms of skin cancer. It usually results from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. If the cancer is not diagnosed before it spreads, the prognosis is very poor. If caught in the early stages, the cancerous area can be removed surgically. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy may also be necessary. This patient is also suffering from discoid lupus erythematosus,a condition which causes a red, scaly rash on the face, especially the nose and cheeks | |
