Lymph cancer. Swollen lymph node (swelling behind and below ear) in the neck of a 51-year-old woman suffering from lymph cancer (lymphoma). As the patient is not suffering from Hodgkin's disease, this is termed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This case is a less malignant, low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The lymphatic system is an important part of the immune system, which protects the body from disease and infection. Spread of the cancer impairs the immune system, leading to death from infections. The prognosis is poor without an early diagnosis. Treatments with radiotherapy and chemotherapy precede the last resort of a bone marrow transplant | |
