Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. View of the inner thigh of a 48 year old woman showing ulceration and tissue death caused by cancer. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph tissue. The lymphatic system drains fluid from body tissues back into the bloodstream, and also helps fight infection. Lymphoma causes a swelling of lymph nodes, usually in the neck and groin areas. The cancer varies in malignancy, but generally spreads through the lymphatic system, impairing the body's defences against infection. Symptoms can range from headaches to fever and skin ulceration,as here. After the cancer is established, most patients die from opportunistic infections | |
