Metastatic malignant melanoma. Swollen abdomen of a 70 year-old male patient caused by the spread of malignant melanoma,the most serious form of skin cancer. In this patient the secondary cancerous growth (known as metastatic growth) has occurred on the liver. The liver is enlarged and causing the abdomen to swell,a condition known as hepatomegaly. Malignant melanoma is a tumour of the melanocytes,the cells that produce pigment in the skin,hair and eyes. The cancer occurs most frequently in older men with pale skin,particularly as a result of overexposure to the sun.
