Squamous cell carcinomas arise from flattened,scale-like cells in the skin,in areas that have been exposed to strong sunlight for many years. This cancer typically affects fair-skinned people over the age of sixty. It starts as a small,painless lump which slowly enlarges often resembling a wart or ulcer. Without treatment the cancer may spread to other parts of the body and may be fatal. The tumour is either removed surgically or destroyed by radiotherapy or cryosurgery | |
