Clubbing. Close-up of the fingers of a 58 year old man showing clubbing (acropachy) caused by kidney failure. The fingertips appear bulbous,with unusually curved,rounded fingernails. Clubbing affects the fingers and the toes. It often occurs as a symptom of another disorder,for instance kidney failure,as seen here. As well as this,lung disorders such as alveolitis (inflammation of the alveoli) and lung cancer may cause clubbing,as may bowel disease and some heart disorders. Treatment is aimed at curing the underlying problem. In rare cases,clubbed fingers may be an inherited trait,and not related to any specific illness
