| Cirrhosis. Light micrograph of a section of human liver tissue showing cirrhosis due to excessive alcohol consumption. The liver responds to the injury or death of some of its cells by producing interlacing strands of fibrous scar tissue (brownish orange) between which are nodules of regenerating cells. The liver becomes tawny and characteristically knobbly in appearance. Cirrhosis cannot be cured,but its progress can be arrested if its cause,in this case alcoholism,can be removed.
