MODEL RELEASED. AIDS baby with herpes. One week old baby born to a mother with AIDS-related complex (ARC). The mother had genital herpes at the time of delivery. ARC is a condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that leads to weakening of the immune system. It is not as destructive as full blown AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome),into which it usually develops. AIDS and ARC make the patient susceptible to opportunistic infections, and make normally harmless infections life threatening. It can spread from an infected mother to her baby through the placenta. Herpes is a viral infection, which is causing this baby's rash | |
