The vertebral bones of the spine are compacted here,notably at centre,also with disc narrowing between the bones. Bony growths (osteophytes,yellow lumps) are also seen on the vertebrae. Osteoarthritis is a disease associated with the ageing process and mechanical stress. It causes joint stiffness and pain. Treatment of symptoms is with painkilling and anti-inflammatory drugs,and physiotherapy can help to maintain joint mobility
