Transmission electron micrograph of Adeno viruses, cause of infection to the upper respiratory tract, the symptoms of which resemble a common cold. The virus contains double-stranded (DNA) surrounded by a protein capsid (coat),which is composed of 252 capsomers (subunits seen as tiny ovals) arranged into an icosahedron,or 20 faced figure. 12 of these capsomers are surrounded by five neighbours & are called pentons. They consist of a base and a sticklike projection (unseen here). To reproduce viruses must take control of the genetic machinery of another cell (in this case animal cells).
